Solo: A Star Wars Story has Already Gained Back its Budget

Because of Solo: A Star Wars Story's messy behind the scenes drama, the budget for the film had skyrocketed to upwards of $250 million—making it the most expensive Star Wars movie ever made. Add to this the fact that the film isn't doing so well in the box office; people were expecting Lucasfilm to take a huge loss from this movie. As it turns out, Solo has already made back its production budget.

As per Box Office Mojo,Solo has already gained a worldwide gross of $264 million, making up for the expanded budget that the movie had to get. After Lucasfilm had decided to fire initial directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller, they had to spend more money to hire Ron Howard and reshoot over 70% of the movie. With Solo still trudging along in theaters, I expect it to be totally overtaken by The Incredibles II when it releases next week.

With the positive fan reception for the film, a lot of people are boiling down the failure of Solo to the late marketing for the movie. With Lucasfilm too busy marketing The Last Jedi, the public only got their first look at Solo two months before the movie's release—not enough time to get everyone hyped for the Star Wars anthology installment.

Personally, I hope that Solo's failure doesn't affect the way Lucasfilm approaches anthology films in the future. I truly did enjoy the film, and I would love to see more of the Star Wars underworld separate from the conflict of the Empire and the Rebellion.

Bring on the Boba Fett movie!
