Solo Makes A Major Change To Classic Star Wars Opening

Warning: This article contains slight spoilers to Solo: A Star Wars Story.

Opening crawls, fancy transitions, laser blast sounds – the Star Wars franchise has its own set of traditions that fans have learned to expect in every film.

However, Lucasfilm's Star Wars spinoff movies aren't as rigidly tied to these rules as films in the saga. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story made its own changes, and so did Lucasfilm's second Star Wars spin-off, Solo: A Star Wars Story.

Star Wars fans know that every Star Wars movie begins with blue text fading over a black screen presenting audiences with a familiar phrase, "A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away." Once the opening text is done, the film then moves on to the opening crawl (in the case of Rogue One it moves right to the action). However, according to ComicBook.com, instead of going on with the action like the preceding Star Wars spinoff, Solo goes on with its blue text, providing filmgoers with details about the state of Star Wars galaxy far, far away during the film's period.

"It is a lawless time. CRIME SYNDICATES compete for resources — food, medicine, and HYPERFUEL."

It goes on for a next page, giving fans a bit of background about young Han Solo (Alden Ehrenreich) and his beginnings. The text then explains to audiences to audiences where Han is from and what syndicate is ruling his planet.

Though the blue text looks familiar, Solo uses the opening the same way other Star Wars films use the opening crawl – to give audiences a background of what's going on. Though it isn't groundbreaking, it's definitely an interesting little twist that helps add a bit of flavor to the spinoff.

Solo: A Star Wars Story premieres tomorrow, May 25.
