Snowpiercer TV Series Gets the Green Light

TNT has officially ordered a season for the upcoming Snowpiercer television series, according to Variety. It will be based on the 2013 film starring Chris Evans, though he won't be a part of the program. Instead, Jennifer Connelly will be the show's lead star, which should make this an interesting watch for those that enjoyed the movie.

Fans familiar with the film or the graphic novels that inspired it, know that the series will have a post-apocalyptic setting where the last remnants of humanity stay in a train that circles the globe. It's on this train where all the intrigue will come from, offering commentary on social injustice, class warfare, and the like. The movie from Bong Joon Ho was incredible, so here is hoping the series can be just as good.

Here's what Sarah Aubrey, the executive vice president of original programming, had to say about the series:

"I'm a personal fan of Bong Joon Ho's epic film, and jumped at the chance to honor his original vision, yet expand upon the world and characters with a diverse, award-winning cast. Science fiction is the perfect genre to examine issues of race, class, gender and natural resources with thought-provoking and exciting storytelling. Snowpiercer will explore those relevant issues while embarking on a wild, action-filled ride."

No release date for the series has been revealed. Snowpiercer will star Jennifer Connelly, Daveed Diggs, Mickey Sumner, Susan Park, Benjamin Haigh, Sasha Frolova, Katie McGuinness, Alison Wright, Annalise Basso, Sam Otto, Roberto Urbina, Sheila Vand, and Lena Hall.
