Snoke’s Backstory Won’t Be Fully Revealed In Star Wars: The Last Jedi

There's a lot of mystery surrounding Supreme Leader Snoke, however while fans have been hoping to learn more about the wrinkled First Order leader ever since he made a towering hologram appearance in The Force Awakens, director Rian Johnson says that The Last Jedi won't fully reveal the character's back story.

Entertainment Weekly just recently dropped a new set of images from The Force Awakens sequel, and in one of the publication's articles about the film, Johnsons decides to talk about Kylo Ren's (Adam Driver) master and his role in The Last Jedi.

"Similar to Rey's parentage, Snoke is here to serve a function in the story. And a story is not a Wikipedia page. For example, in the original trilogy, we didn't know anything about the Emperor except what Luke knew about him, that he's the evil guy behind Vader. Then in the prequels, you knew everything about Palpatine because his rise to power was the story."

While Johnson does make a good point in saying that little was known about Darth Sidious in the original trilogy, there's been a lot of speculation that The Last Jedi would finally shed some light on Snoke's origin. Hopefully the Supreme Leader will have more screen time in the upcoming sequel trilogy installment than Palpatine had in Empire Strikes Back.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi hits cinemas December 15, 2017.
