Smallville Actor Confirmed For “Key Role” In Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2

James Gunn's first Guardians of the Galaxy was rife with a bunch of Easter Eggs, and this sequel movie has been confirmed to include an appearance by Rambo himself, Sylvester Stallone. James Gunn has just confirmed yet another cameo by an established actor — and that's Smallville's Mike Rosenbaum.

Rosenbaum's character is apparently connected to Stallone's, and both of them are playing characters that are "important to the Marvel Universe." In an interview with The Adam Carolla Show, Gunn revealed:

"We do have a couple of characters who are very important to the Marvel Universe who are going to make their debut in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 which people don't know about… Sylvester Stallone plays one of these characters...my friend Michael Rosenbaum also has a pretty decent movie in the role as well and it sort of works in tandem with Sly's character."

Rosenbaum is probably best recognized for his role as Lex Luthor in the Superman-centric series, but he has also provided his voice as the Flash/Wally West in the animated Justice League. Guardians Vol. 2 will be his first foray into the Marvel Universe, and I'm curious to see what he'll bring to the table.

Some fans have guessed that Stallone would be playing another officer in the Nova Corps., but it's possible that Gunn has something different in mind for him. I wouldn't be opposed to a cosmic version of Judge Dredd yelling "I AM THE LAW!" at the Guardians.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is slated for a release on May 5.
