Simon Pegg Says Toxic Fans Won't Stop Him From Appearing in Comic Book or Sci-Fi Movies

Whether you know him from Star Trek, Mission: Impossible, or Shaun of the Dead, there's no doubt that Simon Pegg is a great actor. Often providing comic relief and heart in most of his roles, it's no surprise to see him appear in so many mainstream movies that people eat up.

So it's a little more surprising that he has yet to appear in a superhero movie, well it was until fans started becoming toxic human beings.

However, the man who only had a small role in Star Wars: The Force Awakens revealed that he would still go for a comic book or sci-fi role no matter how toxic the fanbase. Why? Because it's a job and he will do his best at it. This is essentially what he told ComicBookMovie during an interview.

Pegg says that the Mission: Impossible fanbase is nowhere near as bad as the ones seen in Star Wars, or, at the least, he has yet to encounter them. He feels that the film franchise doesn't have the kind schisms that comic book or sci-fi films have.

"I've never experienced it with Mission: Impossible fans and I think it's because Mission: Impossible doesn't really have those schisms within its fanbase. I don't think it has a fanbase in that same respect that comic book movies and science fiction does. I think maybe it's not susceptible or vulnerable to that kind of divisiveness. I don't think it's important really. This is a job and you just do it and hope that you can do it again. I think the minute you start engaging with that sort of stuff, it's just a waste of time...and life!"

Even so, the fact that he would still take a comic book or sci-fi role in the face of the current toxic fandom era is good to know. It's a shame that this kind of vile attitude has driven away actors from social media or directors from touching these franchises. We need to be better than this.
