Shiny Pikachu Spotted in Pokemon Go

There's a new kind of Pikachu lurking in the world of Pokemon Go but you may have to go to Japan to capture it. In Yokohama, Japan, a Pikachu Outbreak Festival is underway, and Pokemon Go is celebrating by unleashing a Shiny Pikachu to the popular augmented reality game.

This version of Pikachu has a slightly deeper shade of yellow than a regular Pikachu and has a shiny "animation" that comes out whenever players view it in Pokemon Go.

Niantic, the developer of Pokemon Go, hasn't officially announced the addition of Shiny Pikachu in the game, but various players at the Pikachu Outbreak Festival have reported seeing and capturing a Shiny Pikachu.

Right now, Shiny Pikachu can only be found at the Pikachu Outbreak Festival. A Shiny Pikachu can also evolve into a Shiny Raichu, which has a darker brown fur than a regular Raichu.

The Pikachu is one of the unique special Pokemon Go events featured in the Pikachu Outbreak Festival. Unown spelling out "Yokohama" are also showing up at the event while Mr Mime (a regional-exclusive Pokemon normally seen in Europe) is appearing at the festival.
