Shazam! Producer Likens Billy Batson to Peter Parker

Shazam! is one of the bigger films that the DCEU is gearing up for, and fans can't wait to find out more about this version of the character. As it turns out, when we meet Billy/Captain Marvel, his character is very much akin to Marvel's new Spider-Man.

Producer Peter Safran tells Entertainment Weekly:

"It's complete wish-fulfillment — if you scour all of DC and Marvel there are very few characters that are actually stoked to be a superhero. They're not brooding, they're not put out, like ‘Oh dammit, I gotta save the world again!' Billy Batson is like Peter Parker, they're thrilled to have these powers and can't wait to try them out."

Safran does have a point, and it would be refreshing to see a hero in the DCEU who is openly accepting of his role as a hero. You can even say Wonder Woman is an optimistic hero, but even she said that ‘humanity didn't deserve her' at some point.

Safran is adamant that these upcoming DCEU films, Wonder Woman 1984, Shazam!, and Aquaman, are all trying to steer away from the darker past films. I honestly have no problem with dark tones; I think the problem was just Snyder's need to improve his storytelling method.

Suicide Squad, however, proved to be an absolute trainwreck.

Everyone is gearing up for a big Shazam! reveal at SDCC 2018 by the end of the week. Hopefully the preview delivers.

Catch Shazam! in theaters April 5, 2019.
