Sandman Movie Says Goodbye to Screenwriter

Sandman is the second movie to say goodbye to part of its production crew. Neil Gaiman's graphic novel turned movie is now hanging in the balance once more, now that it has lost its screenwriter.

io9 reported that Eric Heisserer has now departed from the project, after he was announced to be penning the script for the big screen debut just earlier this year. Speaking to the publication, Heisserer stated that Sandman seems to be better fit for TV.

"I had many conversations with Neil [Gaiman] on this, and I did a lot of work on the feature and came to the conclusion that the best version of this property exists as an HBO series or limited series, not as a feature film, not even as a trilogy. The structure of the feature film really doesn't mesh with this. So I went back and said here's the work that I've done. This isn't where it should be. It needs to go to TV. So I talked myself out of a job!"

Heisserer's claims seem to echo what previous director and actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt also had with the Sandman project. The actor had announced his leaving the project over Facebook, where he expounded that there were visions between the production and New Line on how the project should be done.

This is already the third departure from the project. The first screenwriter Jack Thorne was first set to do the script before Heisserer came onboard. How the project will move on from now remains to be seen.
