Rotten Tomatoes Shuts Down Claims That Star Wars: The Last Jedi Audience Score is Fake, Says It's 100% Genuine

There's been a huge disparity between Star Wars: The Last Jedi's critics score (93%) in Rotten Tomatoes and its audience score (54%), and some people are doubting the authenticity of the audience score, with one Disney-hating troll even claiming to have caused the huge drop. But Rotten Tomatoes has decided to assure us that the aggregate scores are 100% authentic.

Rotten Tomatoes spokesperson (and Fandango Vice President of Communications) Dan Benson is setting the record straight, saying that the audience score is genuine.

"We have several teams of security, network, and social database experts who constantly monitor reviews and ratings to ensure that they are genuine," Benson explained to Forbes "They haven't seen anything unusual with The Last Jedi, except that there has been an uptick in the number of written user reviews submitted. Aside from that, everything is normal and we don't see any unusual activity. We looked at The Last Jedi compared to other blockbusters and it has been consistent with those past films."

According to Benson, The Last Jedi has "comparable number of reviews to The Force Awakens" but can't explain the huge gap between their scores.

"I can't explain why there's such a disparity," Benson admitted. "How we take this is that people are super passionate about this movie. On the positive side, our site is popular, and it has become an important platform for debate and discussion."

Benson said that The Last Jedi's low score wasn't caused by a swarm of bots or any Facebook group.

"We've been working around the clock to get the numbers right," Benson assured. "Authenticity is very important to us. We have security teams, network teams, database teams who work so hard, it's a little disheartening for them to see people make such [accusatory] claims without knowing the facts."

The Last Jedi's disparity (-39) in Rotten Tomatoes is the largest in the saga's history.
