Alita: Battle Angel has found its lead role.
According to Collider, the movie, which is based on Yukito Kishiro's manga series, has cast Rosa Salazar in the title role of the big-screen adaptation. She plays a cyborg who has lost all her memories and is taken care of a cybernetics doctor after being found in a garbage heap. One thing she remembers is her is her skills on cyborg martial arts, which will lead her to become a bounty hunter living in a dystopian future. The manga follows her journey trying to gain back her memories.
Salazar has appeared in other movies with a similar tone such as The Divergent Series: Insurgent and The Divergent Series: Insurgent. With her proclivity for such films, it appears that the 30-year-old actress has enough experience to portray her character impressively. Her upcoming projects include Maze Runner: The Death Cure and CHIPs.
In addition, the Alita: Battle Angel movie adaptation is written by James Cameron, who was supposed to direct it. However, with his involvement in the mega Avatar-franchise, the filmmaker stepped down to work as producer instead. Robert Rodriguez will be directing the movie now.
20th Century Fox has not set a release date for Alita: Battle Angel as of this writing.
