Ron Howard’s Reshoots Covered “Nearly All” Of Solo “For Twice The Film’s Budget”

There's a lot of talk around Solo: A Star Wars Story again. Back in June, Lucasfilm decided to separate ways with original directors Chris Lord and Phil Miller months after the two started production even if the studio thought that most of the film's footage was pretty usable. Soon after the studio got Ron Howard to replace Miller and Lord in the director's seat, and now it seems like new reports say that the A Beautiful Mind director's reshoots covered nearly all of Solo, causing "twice the budget" to be used during the film's production.

According to Star Wars News Nets' The Resistance Broadcast, inside sources say that Howard reshoot covered "nearly all of" Solo, using up "twice the budget" that was intended for the Star Wars spinoff. Apparently, Howard had at least 80% of the film reshot – a shocking development since most of Lord and Miller's footage had been deemed "very usable" during the director's departure from the standalone Star Wars movie's production.

Of course, while it sounds like Solo's in trouble again, this new report could actually be good news for fans. It might be better for the spinoff to be more of Howard's film than a mix between Lord and Miller's style, giving the movie a singular direction. After all, who doesn't love the tonal consistency and clear direction.

Solo premieres on May 25, 2018. Meanwhile, Star Wars: The Last Jedi hits cinemas December 15, 2017.
