Ron Howard And Lucasfilm Are “Seriously Exploring” A Willow Sequel

It looks like Solo: A Star Wars Story director Ron Howard is pretty serious about that sequel to Willow that he was talking about earlier this month.

Taking to Twitter, the Star Wars director went on to confirm that there've been actual discussions about getting a sequel to Willow from Lucasfilm.

A couple of months ago, Howard told ComicBook.com that there had been a few conversations about developing Willow 2. But back then the director didn't specify whether he was talking to Lucasfilm about the project. Now, fans of the cult classic have actual confirmation that Howard's made the pitch to the studio behind Star Wars and its galaxy far, far away.

For those who aren't familiar with the film, Willow is a high fantasy film directed by Howard back in 1988. The story which was written by Star Wars creator George Lucas had Warwick Davis playing Willow, a dwarf who reluctantly decides to protect a baby with a special destiny. Willow has to protect the baby from the Queen Bavmora, an evil sorceress who wants the baby dead. Luckily, the dwarf has his own allies like the swordsman Madmartigan played by Val Kilmer.

Raking in $57.3 million after spending a budget of $35 million, Willow wasn't a large success, though it did manage to gather a cult following.

It'd definitely be interesting to see a Willow sequel come out after so many years.

There isn't a release date for Willow 2 just yet, however, Howard's latest release, Solo: A Star Wars Story is currently screening in cinemas.
