Rogue One Villain Ben Mendelsohn Wants To Be Doctor Doom

Ben Mendelsohn has been under the spotlight a lot recently, starring as the antagonist of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and possibly up for a similar role in 2019's Captain Marvel. However, when asked about a villain he's always wanted to portray, Mendelsohn told the Happy Sad Confused podcast that he wanted to portray Doctor Doom. It's a solid casting choice and one many will want to see.

Mendelsohn is a pretty big fan of the Fantastic Four villain, calling him "the greatest comic character of all time." He praised the villain's backstory and how he's grown to be a complex character in recent years, caring for characters like Valeria Richards, the daughter of Susan Storm and his worst enemy Reed Richards.

"The thing that's really appealing about Victor is the damage and trauma, the loss of the family, the wrong done to him, then the revenge and the takeover. Then it's the protectiveness of Latveria wrapped in that Cold War vibe. What actually makes him great is his caring bit. That's what's great about Doctor Doom, and I just like him!"

The actor was also asked about Fox's rumored Doctor Doom film, which he has expressed interest in. He would be a pretty good choice if the studio can't get Mads Mikkelsen for the role. Mendelsohn seems to be a big fan of the character, given the background he gave for Doom, so he's arguably the better choice.

Captain Marvel comes out on March 8, 2019.
