Rogue One, Doctor Strange and Fantastic Beasts Earn BAFTA Nominations


The British Academy of Film and Arts has announced the nominees for their 2017 awards and there's a fair bit of fantasy and sci-fi. Doctor Strange, Rogue One and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them all earned nominations. You can see the full list of nominees here.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story was nominated for the categories of "Hair and Makeup" and "Special Visual Effects". Neil Corbould, Hal Hickel, Mohen Leo, John Knoll and Nigel Sumner are credited as the people behind Rogue One's visual effects. The nominees for the hair and makeup department have yet to be credited.

Doctor Strange was nominated for those same categories. Richard Bluff, Stephane Ceretti, Paul Corbould and Jonathan Fawkner are credited for the Special Visual Effects and Jonathan Woodward is credited for hair and make-up. Doctor Strange was nominated for an additional category, production design. Charles Wood and John Bush are credited for this award.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them managed to bag five nominations. It was nominated for Special Visual Effects, Production Design, Costume Design and Sound. It was also nominated for Outstanding British Film.

In addition, two Marvel actors have been nominated for the EE Rising Star Category. Spider-Man: Homecoming's Tom Holland and Marvel: Agents of S.H.I.E.LD.'s Ruth Negga were both nominated. These nominations were decided by public vote.
