Rob Liefeld Praises Disney CEO For 'Understanding' That Deadpool Needs To Be Rated R

One of the biggest concerns about the Disney/Fox Acquisition was the watering down of the more mature elements of the X-Men cinematic universe—particularly Deadpool. It was a huge relief for fans when Disney CEO Bob Iger expressed his interest in keeping their R-rated stories, and Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld has jumped on to praise him.

Talking to ComicBook, Liefeld expressed:

"Bob Iger didn't deliver this unprecedented level of historic success for Disney by accident. This man gets it. He understands the culture and more importantly he understands the concerns of the fans. Addressing the Deadpool issue right out the gate gets high marks and in all honesty, why would they mess with the success that Ryan Reynolds has achieved as Deadpool?

The next person I encounter that tells me they want a neutered version of Ryan's Deadpool will be the first person to express that to me. So smart of Iger to lay that foundation of trust and I for one am so appreciative. It definitely alleviated a concerned Deadpool base."

Ever since Disney got a hold of Marvel Studios, a lot of fans have expressed how watered down some characters have turned out to be. Where Tony Stark was once an alcoholic womanizer, he's now a fruit-juice-drinking leader of superheroes. I know it's all for the sake of character development, but everything seems to PG in the Marvel universe now.

As far as the MCU/Fox merger goes, a lot of people are still curious on how Marvel Studios plans to move forward. I would love to get some sort of nod to the X-Men before Avengers 4 comes out, but I would understand if the mutants would come to the MCU during phase 4, with a new slate of heroes in the roster.

Deadpool 2 comes out June 1, 2018.
