Ridley Scott Admits Alien Franchise May Be Played Out

Ridley Scott was the director behind this year's Alien: Covenant, but it looks like he himself is getting tired of the franchise. He'd previously commented that he had about six more Alien movies left in him, but now it seems that he's ready to move on to something else.

During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Scott was asked about his decisions when it came to directing Covenant but only choosing to produce Blade Runner 2049. On the subject of Alien, Scott admitted:

"I think the beast has almost run out, personally. You've got to come in with something else. You've got to replace that. And so I was right, I was ahead of the game."

Previously, Scott had said that he wanted the next film to focus on David who has found himself on a new ship and ready to wreak havoc on more worlds. This time around, the Engineers are said to be making a return, and they will have it out on David who had basically destroyed an entire planet full of Engineer-type creatures.

Though I admit that Prometheus has its plot problems, I think that Covenant may have been a step back in the franchise. Sure the classic thrills and chills of the first Alien are there, but Prometheus was just way more ambitious when it came to their approach to sci-fi. You have to admit, even the humans in Covenant were kind of stupid.

We still have no idea when the next Alien will come out, but personally I'm hoping that Ridley Scott takes the backseat and lets someone else handle the film. Denis Villenueve did pretty well with Blade Runner 2049.
