Ride Along Star Cast as Female Lead for Sonic the Hedgehog Movie

Fans were already surprised when James Marsden got cast for the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog movie, with many wondering if he is going to be the chili dog-eating Hedgehog. While that has yet to be confirmed, the film has now cast its female lead in Ride Along star Tika Sumpter, though like the role of Marsden, it hasn't been explained.

Variety confirmed the news. Sumpter starred in both Ride Along films and has reportedly signed on for the third film in the franchise. Her role is going to be interesting since there are a number of female characters in the Sonic series, though she could also be a live-action person, which will be cringey.

There is a lot of uneasiness surrounding this movie, with many worried it will be one of those cartoons in New York movies, like The Smurfs. While the presence of Deadpool director Tim Miller as the executive producer might be good, it is being helmed by first-time director Jeff Howler.

As if that wasn't enough, video game movies carry around a stigma of terribleness, with most films based on them being stinkers. Rampage is currently the highest rated video game movie of all time and that's not saying a lot.

Sonic the Hedgehog comes out on November 15, 2019.
