Rian Johnson’s The Last Jedi Creates ‘New Rules’ For The Star Wars Universe

Though Star Wars: The Force Awakens successfully reawakened the Star Wars franchise when it hit cinemas back in 2015, the film also received criticism from fans who believed the film felt too much like a rehash of A New Hope. Now fans are worrying that director Rian Johnson might make the same mistakes in creating Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Reassuring fans that The Last Jedi would try to nod to older Star Wars movies while at the same time present something new, Kylo Ren star Adam Driver says that Johnson has created "new rules" for the Star Wars franchise.

Speaking in an interview with The Huffington Post, Driver decided to talk a little bit more about The Last Jedi.

"[Johnson] created new rules for the Star Wars universe and balanced the familiar and unfamiliar very adeptly while respecting that his audience can handle ambiguity. Which you can see in his previous films. Characters and story are his priority."

Johnson has told interviewers before that he was taking a different approach to The Last Jedi and it looks like Driver's comments echo the director's promises. We wonder what kind of rules Johnson's made for the movie.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi hits the big screen on December 15, 2017.
