Rian Johnson Gives Updates On The New Star Wars Trilogy

Star Wars: The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson might have a few more years till the release of the next Star Wars trilogy, but it seems like the director's excited to work on the next batch of Star Wars movies that Lucasfilm has assigned to him.

Sitting down with The Hollywood Reporter, Johnson was asked when and where in the Star Wars timeline his new trilogy would be, and it seems like the director's interested the kind of drama and story that he's going to bring out in new Star Wars films.

"I'm at the very beginning of trying to come up with it, and honestly, timeline-wise, I'm not sure yet. In a way it's interesting, but in a way, it's the least interesting part of it to me," Johnson explained. "I'm more thinking of what's the story going to be, who is it going to follow? What elements is it going to have? What kind of drama is in it? My head right now is more in that place. I haven't really, really gotten into it. Right now I'm mostly excited by the potential and just starting to form little clusters of ideas of what it might become."

Johnson loves playing around with drama – fans who've seen The Last Jedi know as much – and we're excited to hear more about the stories that the filmmaker plans to tell in the new trilogy. It's definitely going to be an exciting ride.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is currently screening in cinemas.
