Rian Johnson Admits To Changing Kylo Ren’s “Goofy” Scar In The Last Jedi

Adam Driver's Kylo Ren may have looked a bit different to fans when he appeared in the new Last Jedi teaser trailer during the Star Wars Celebration last weekend. Sharp-eyed viewers noticed that there was something off with the scar the Darth Vader fan-boy had gotten during the events of The Force Awakens – the slash had somehow moved across Kylo Ren's face.

While some have simply waved it off as a continuity error, The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson says that the scar shift was a deliberate choice he had made for the sequel to J.J. Abram's sequel trilogy installment. Answering a fan on Twitter, Johnson revealed that he had moved the scar due to aesthetic reasons.

"It was my decision to slightly adjust it, and that was my justification," he wrote. "It honestly looked goofy running straight up the bridge of his nose."

While it may seem like a pretty insignificant reason to change the way Ren's scar ran up his face, it wouldn't be the first time that slight character revisions were made in the Star Wars franchise. Remember how Emperor Palpatine's look in The Empire Strikes Back differed a lot from the later design of the character?

Featuring Fisher along with Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver, Domhnall Gleeson, Gwendoline Christie, Peter Mayhew, Andy Serkis, Anthony Daniels, Lupita Nyong'o Mark Hamill, Benicio Del Toro, Kelly Marie Tran, and Laura Dern, Star Wars: The Last Jedi is scheduled to debut in cinemas on December 15, 2017.
