Rey Might Turn to the Dark Side in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and Here's Why

Another theory about Rey's parentage has spun off from the massive Star Wars community, and this time its discovery may lure the Jedi candidate to the Dark Side.

Her dad in this particular theory is neither Skywalker nor Kenobi, but someone very close to Snoke. Buzz has it that Del Toro will play a villain, which can place him in the middle of this theory.

The theory comes from Reddit poster Darth Hodor who thinks del Toro will play Ezra Bridger from the Star Wars TV show Rebels. Bridger makes the transition to the movies where he goes under the infuence of Snoke and Kylo Ren. He joins in the attack against the Jedi Academy and massacres its students. Before fleeing, Luke hides his student Rey, who happens to be Bridger's daughter, in Jakuu.

It sounds topsy-turvey enough, but the kicker in this theory is Rey's joining her now evil dad once they reunite in Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Darth Hodor says if true, this theory can be a plot twist for the ages:

"The reason I really like this theory is it allows for a "double fall" in Episode VIII. It sets up Rey's fall to the dark side (which could be incredible if pulled off correctly) and Kylo Ren is already poised for a redemption arc of his own (a "fall" to the light). This would set up a fantastic finale between these two characters in Episode IX."

This turnabout can be thrilling and confusing. It can also add heft to the looming confrontation between Kylo Ren and Rey in The Last Jedi. Still, wouldn't it add more depth to the conflict if Rey's father turned out to be Luke, as many fans suspected? With all due respect to de Toro's acting prowess, Bridger;s character doesn't carry the same emotional power as the trilogy's original heroes. Fans who didn't watch the series may just shrug off this connection.

Turning Rey to the dark side may need a larger and more dramatic hook.
