Resident Evil 7 Protagonist, Weapons & Story Revealed

There hasn't been a lot of new information about Resident Evil 7.

However, thanks to the sudden sighting of an ESRB rating for the game, fans may see the first glimpse of what the game will be about. Though the entry at the ESRB website has already been taken down, one Twitter user Wario64 has managed to take a snapshot of the description and rating summary.

Seen below, the description confirms that it will have a Mature rating. Considering that the game usually has a lot of blood, guts, and gore, both in the gameplay and cutscenes, the rating is not surprising.

Going into detail, the ESRB rating also confirmed that there will be a couple of scenes where the players will get to use quite a huge variety of weapons. These include shotguns, explosives, pistols, flamethrowers, and the ever trusted and rusted chainsaw.

There will also be combat, highlighted by realistic sound and coupled with exaggerated blood spatters. The rating description even paints a few scenes where the violence and gore are depicted—dismemberment of different body parts, and, get this, impalement through the face using a shovel. Whether or not the character is human or a mutant creature wasn't detailed, but that's a pretty gory experience, nevertheless.

If that's not enough for the M rating, the description also ends on the note that there will be some cusses in the dialogue. Cute.

We may not yet know anything about the plot, but the description also outs the fact that the main character will be Ethan. Players will take on his role, and their mission is to find Ethan's missing wife in a derelict mansion.

Granted, we already know that Ethan as a character has already been mentioned in the Resident Evil 7 Gamescom trailer. And we already know that his wife has been involved in some very shady and scary business that Ethan will unwittingly also get to discover in the game.

This sounds like the perfect set-up in any horror movie about to go very, very wrong. Resident Evil 7: biohazard is set for release on the PC, PS4, and Xbox One on Jan. 24, 2017.
