Religion For Overwatch Officially Approved in Brazil

An Overwatch player in managed to successfully, officially register a church for Hanzo in Brazil. According to VG247, the "National Church of Hanzo" is a church in which fans can join and now apparently legally request off of work on Tuesdays for "religious" reasons (probably to play Overwatch). The goal was to show how easy it is to officially start a religion in Brazil, which is important because religious organizations are exempt from taxes. Many have exploited this system before.

Mateus Mognon, who registered the Overwatch religion, wrote a memoir (Google-translated) of the events, and he said that registering a church is relatively simple. You just need an address, a lawyer's signature, five people, some fees, and a written statute. Then a notary's office will approve the document and you're free to be tax exempted.

According to Mognon, the constitution wants to protect religious freedom of any cult no matter how small, but the regulations are easy to exploit if people are finding a legal way to get tax immunity.

Here are some interesting details about the Overwatch religion: Members of the Church of Hanzo are forbidden from using the words "Hanzo Main"; Baptism is done by playing one Overwatch match; If you can't afford a copy of the game, you can play a game of Paladins instead.
