Rejected Concept Art for Jakku Rey in Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Phil Szostak is a creative art manager in Lucasfilm, and from time to time, he likes to share some never before seen art for the Star Wars movies. Though the latest Star Wars movie will be based on Han Solo, he gives us a look at some rejected concept art for Rey from The Force Awakens by artist Dermot Power.

This costume still has the signature hood and goggles, but Rey here looks admittedly more covered up than she does in the final cut of the film. I guess if the movie wanted to keep with their visual imagery, it would be more visually striking to have the all-black Kylo go up against Rey who is wearing lighter colors, not this grey scavenger outfit.

You'll also notice that Rey's final Jakku outfit actually gives her goggles that were outfitted from an old stormtrooper helmet. That's a pretty neat detail considering we meet Rey scrounging for spare parts in a Star Destroyer.

Just like how Luke Skywalker's outfit gets darker in the original trilogy, the same thing happened with Rey in The Last Jedi. I wouldn't be surprised if she'll be wearing a black outfit in Episode IX, but I can also see Kylo going full anime villain wearing an all-white suit complete with a cape.

Catch Rey in Star Wars Episode IX which comes out Dec. 20, 2019.
