When Disney and Lucasfilm announced that they're moving Star Wars: Episode VIII's release date to December 2017, it didn't take long for Avatar 2 to cancel its previously release day, and Fox declined to provide a reason why. Apparently, that's not the only film that's being affected by the power of the Force.
Warner Bros.' adaptation of Ernie Cline's YA sci-fi novel Ready Player One is moving its release date from December 15, 2017 to March 30, 2018, probably to avoid the competition against Star Wars: Episode VIII. Even if Steven Spielberg is set to direct the film, it would be a battle that Ready Player One wouldn't have won.
The move could potentially improve Ready Player One's box office prospects. It could also give the filmmakers more time to polish the film, to make it the best it could be, so it would live up to the book's greatness. Bates Motel star Olivia Cooke will play Art3mis, one of the female leads, and Ben Mendelsohn is reportedly portraying the film's villain. The leading role, Wade Owen a.k.a. Parzival has not yet been cast.
Originally published in 2011, Ready Player One is set in the future, as players compete for the opportunity to control a virtual universe known as Oasis and find the hidden treasure within. While I'm super hyped to see the film adaptation of Ready Player One, at least the change of release date would give those who haven't read the book more time to catch up, and I highly recommend you to read it if you haven't yet.
