Pokemon GO Device May be Developed for Player Safety

Pokemon Company President Tsunekazu Ishihara stated that the company is working with Nintendo to look into a device that will allow the Pokemon Go to be played more safely, Anime News Networkreports. In an interview with Nikkei Asian review, the president gave a statement that both the company and Nintendo were concerned with the safety of Pokemon Go players. He states that the already release Pokemon Go Plus was the first step in this direction.

Ishihara made this statement in response to the question, "A series of accidents while playing Pokemon Go have been reported, including critical ones. What's your reaction to this?" Ishihara explained, "We intended to make a game for people to play outdoors, instead of at home. The potential that players could become too involved in playing the game [ and that they might walk into danger] was already an issue at an early stage."

He countinued: To avoid the danger, we also released Pokemon Go Plus the smartphone-linked wearable device, so that Pokemon Go players do not have to always be looking down at their smartphone screens. Together with Nintendo, we are thinking of developing a new device that can be played more safely." He did not give any additional information about this new device.

Pokemon Go Plus is a wristband device that lets players capture Pokemon without looking at their phones. It shipped out on September 16. Pokemon Go has launched in over 100 countries and several accidents involving players, including auto accidentes, have been reported.

It's good to hear that the game companies are concerned about player's safety, even if it's ultimately up to the players themselves to be responsible while playing. Do you think these precautions are enough? Do you have any of your own ideas?
