Peter Jackson's Brutal Response To Jake Gyllenhaal's Horrible Lord of the Rings Audition

Jake Gyllenhaal showed up on The Tonight's Show with Jimmy Fallon, where he discussed with the host auditions that he had been on that didn't go so well. The actor talked about one of his worst experiences: auditioning for the role of Frodo Baggins for Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings movies. He said that his agents were so excited to get him to audition that they forgot to mention that he needed to put on an English accent for the role. That led to a bad experience with director Peter Jackson, as Gyllenhaal recalls:

"He literally turned to me and said, ‘You are the worst actor that I have ever seen.' He said, ‘Did anyone tell you you were supposed to have an accent?' I was like, ‘No!' And he said, ‘Well, fire your agents.'"

That's a pretty harsh response. Maybe Jackson was just having a bad day. Gyllenhaal may not be a great actor, but I think he's far from the worst. He might have lost the role of Spider-Man to Tobey Maguire and Batman to Christian Bale, but he had some unforgettable roles.
