Peter Capaldi is Leaving Doctor Who

Peter Capaldi will be leaving Doctor Who after Season 10. The official Twitter for BBC's Doctor Who tweeted a quote by Capaldi saying as much. You can read it below:

The tweet reads "It (the new series) will be my last… I feel it's time to move on". Peter Capaldi is cited as being the person quoted in the tweet. This upcoming tenth season of Doctor Who will premiere in spring and it seems after that season finishes, Capaldi will step away.

The news comes at the heels of Steven Moffat's departure from the show after Season 10. The longtime showrunner will be replaced by Chris Chibnall. It seems that the new director will have to deal with an entirely new Doctor as well.

Of course, the Doctor being changed out is a big part of the Doctor Who mythology. The Time Lord constantly regenerates and the show reboots with a new actor every few years. But the news comes as something of a surprise, since Capaldi hadn't really indicated he was departing until now.

As sad as I am to see Capaldi go, I hope the fresh start for Doctor Who is a good one. It would be nice if they cast someone unexpected. What do you think? Who do you want to be the next Doctor?
