Paul Bettany Is Jealous Of One Specific Part Of Robert Downey Jr.’s Contract With Marvel

Paul Bettany might be enjoying the popularity that comes with being one of the newest additions in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but it seems like the British actor wish he could be a bit more like Robert Downey Jr. – well at least in one respect.

Sitting down to speak with Hollywood Outbreak about his work in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4, Bettany made an offhanded joke about wanting the financial clause the Iron Man star has in Marvel Studios' contract.

"I like my character, but I'd love Robert Downey Jr.'s profit participation," Bettany said.

Downey Jr.'s been with Marvel for quite some time, and Tony Stark has been one of the franchise's flagship characters after his appearance in Iron Man. The film gained so much success, Downey decided to make use of the potential earnings he could have with Marvel by working out a contract that would allow him to receive a portion of all the profits that a movie with Tony Stark would earn. The Iron Man star has amassed quite a lot over time, considering that Tony has appeared in seven out of seventeen Marvel movies.

It was a pretty smart move for Downey Jr. to work out a pretty lucrative contract with Marvel – if I were Paul Bettany, I'd feel jealous too. The Marvel Cinematic Universe is now one of the biggest superhero franchises of all time, and not only does Downey Jr. have the prestige and the fame that comes along with playing Iron Man, he has a buck load of money to boot. Lucky guy.

Bettany and Downey Jr. are set to reprise their respective roles in Avengers: Infinity War on May 4, 2018, and Avengers 4 on May 3, 2019.
