Paramount Pictures and Sega of America Will Co-Produce 2019 Sonic Movie


Sonic the Hedgehog will be coming out next year and fans are curious about the 2019 video game adaptation. Produced by the director of the Deadpool movie, fans are hoping that the film has a good sense of humor since the confirmation of CGI mixed with live-action has received mixed results from them.

To confirm the news even further, Sega of America and Paramount Pictures have confirmed that they will be co-producing the film, according to Business Wire.

SEGA Holdings Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Haruki Satomi had this to say about the partnership:

"I am very honored that our companies, SEGA and MARZA, have this incredible opportunity to partner with Paramount Pictures for this production, which will bring Sonic to the big screen for the first time. Since he was first introduced to the world 26 years ago, Sonic has continued to grow in popularity as part of our core strategy to focus on video games. In addition to video games, this provides SEGA with a fantastic opportunity to share Sonic with everyone and we can't wait to reveal more to eager audiences in the future."

Jim Gianopulos, the Chairman, and CEO of Paramount Pictures also chimed in on the partnership:

"We are incredibly excited to work with SEGA to bring this iconic property and character to audiences around the world. We look forward to our partnership on this great venture."

Sega has hyped the move as the next expansion of the Sonic IP. Prior to the film announcement, there has already been a number of animated series' based on the Sega icon, including the new Sonic Boom program. There's also a new comic book coming from IDW, which will start from scratch.

The Sonic movie comes out on Nov. 15, 2019.
