Pacific Rim Uprising Expected To Overtake Black Panther At Domestic Box Office

Black Panther might be experiencing wave after wave of success at the global and domestic box office, but it looks like Pacific Rim: Uprising might finally be the film that knocks out that Marvel movie out of the top spot in box office charts when it premieres this weekend.

According to Box Office Pro, analysts predict that Steven S. DeKnight's sequel to Pacific Rim will earn $25 million at the domestic box office during its 3-Day Weekend opening, beating Black Panther's expected weekend earnings of $15 million. Though that might not seem much in comparison to other big blockbuster movies which earn upwards $90 million during its opening weekend, the Pacific Rim sequel is expected to earn much more in the international box office, especially in China.

Pacific Rim's performance was pretty much the same, doing poorly in cinemas Stateside but raking in more than 75 percent of its $411 million global box office total in the international film market.

Despite being one of Marvel's most recent film phenomenon, Black Panther's is slowly closing down business now that the film's had its six week run in cinemas and now that the hype's moved on to Avengers: Infinity War. This gives Pacific Rim Uprising time enough to take the top spot over the weekend.

Black Panther is currently screening in cinemas. Pacific Rim Uprising opens on March 23, 2018.
