POW! Responds to Stan Lee's Allegations

2018 hasn't been an easy year for Stan Lee. He came down with pneumonia, broke off contact with a number of people, and there are reports that people close to the Marvel legend are trying to take advantage of him. As if those events aren't stressful enough, the icon has filed a billion-dollar lawsuit against POW! Entertainment.

In the lawsuit, Lee is claiming that the company is illegally using his image and likeness. The company recently responded to these allegations in The Hollywood Reporter and it looks like this lawsuit is going to get ugly unless things are settled soon.

A representative from POW! Entertainment said the allegations against them are without merit since Lee was supposedly made clear of the contract he was signing. The response is also implying that Lee himself might not be behind the lawsuit since the beloved former Marvel writer clearly understood and agreed to the contract at the time, at least according to the representative from POW!

"The allegations are completely without merit. In particular, the notion that Mr. Lee did not knowingly grant POW! exclusive rights to his creative works or his identity is so preposterous that we have to wonder whether Mr. Lee is personally behind this lawsuit. There is no question Mr. Lee — who, along with his daughter, was and remains a substantial POW! shareholder — clearly understood the terms of the agreements he signed. The evidence, which includes Mr. Lee's subsequent statements and conduct, is overwhelming and we look forward to presenting it in court."

POW! Entertainment had previously shown concern for Stan's wellbeing when reports of elder abuse were made to the public. Since they implied that Stan isn't directly responsible for the lawsuit, it seems that the concern is still there, which is a bit interesting.

Expect things to get uglier unless this lawsuit is dropped.
