Fans of seiyuu Miyu Irino will have to temporarily say goodbye to the voice actor as he pursues his dream of studying abroad.
The VA, 28, has confirmed that he will be taking a short hiatus to pursue this dream, which has already been in his plans for a while, Anime News Network reported.
According to Irino-san, he knew that he will do this anyway, so it might as well be sooner than later. He hopes that in studying abroad, he will learn more about languages and theater, among other things.
This is definitely good news for Irino-san. I approve of anyone who wants to expand their fields beyond their main careers.
Even though he is not one of my main seiyuu biases, Irino-san does have his fair share of nice anime roles that may also be put on hold.
He's currently voicing Koushi Sugawara in Haikyuu!!, the official setter of Karasuno High before the genius Tobio Kageyama stepped in. Granted, the timing is fairly accommodating, since the third season will see the team (spoiler alert) win the Nationals.
Even though he's a third year, I would expect that there will be succeeding seasons, since the anime has already introduced the other teams that will be battling it out in the Nationals.
There's also Osomatsu-san, a franchise that has been gaining considerable traction. Apart from a new game, it will also have a new anime special slated for December. While season 2 has not yet been officially announced, we're sure that there will be one--even animation director Kanchi Suzuki has reportedly been working on the hypothetical second season.
And if there's anyone who can play the sometimes effeminate, other times flirtatious, and all-the-time jerk of a youngest brother Todomatsu, it would have to be him.
In any case, Irino-san did assure fans that he will be coming back sooner than fans expect. I'm crossing my fingers that the two aforementioned franchises won't move forward too fast, because I can't imagine his roles being re-cast with someone else.
