Obi-Wan Spinoff Should Take Notes From Sideshow Collectible’s Amazing New Figure

Obi-Wan Kenobi's getting his own standalone movie from Lucasfilm and everyone's pretty excited to know what the Jedi Master might look like when he returns to the big screen.

Though the Star Wars spinoff hasn't started production yet, it seems like fan's imagination can start running wild with Sideshow Collectibles offering up a cool new high-end statue of old Uncle Ben in a period that seems to be between Star Wars: Episode III- Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope.

The Star Wars Mythos Obi-Wan Kenobi statue from Sideshow Collectibles might have been sold out for quite some time, however, Lucasfilm's official Star Wars website has just recently announced the return of Sideshow Collectible's Mythos Line with the arrival of the 1:6 scale Star Wars Mythos Obi-Wan Kenobi figure.

Taking so many details of the statue, the new Obi-Wan figure has a Clone Wars era armor sitting on top of Obi-Wan's backpack with Anakin and Qui-Gon's lightsabers hanging from underneath.

But that's not all. The coolest bit about the figure is it's facial sculpt. Sideshow Collectibles decided to go with a mix of the faces of Obi-Wan stars Alec Guinness and Ewan McGregor as well.

"We gathered reference from many of (Guinness') older films, as well as images from A New Hope and tried to blend the two together. As we progressed though, it became clear that approaching the likeness this way wasn't reading as Obi-Wan," Sideshow's Kevin Ellis explained. "It was a great likeness of young Alec Guinness, but younger Obi-Wan doesn't look like young Alec Guinness, he looks like Ewan McGregor! From there, it was about finding that balance between aging down Alec Guinness's features from A New Hope, and adding in some of Ewan McGregor's features from the end of Revenge of the Sith."

Would this version of Obi-Wan make it into the Jedi Master's upcoming spinoff movie? We hope so.

Obi-Wan doesn't have an official title or a release date just yet, but we'll let everyone know as soon as we get word. The next Star Wars film, The Last Jedi, is slated for release December 15, 2017.
