People have been seeing a lot of Joaquin Phoenix as the actor works on the highly anticipated Joker film in the past few weeks. Interestingly, Phoenix's co-star Zazie Beetz wants everyone to know that the new incarnation of the Clown Prince of Crime will be nothing like Jared Leto's version in Suicide Squad.
Beetz recently made an appearance at the ACE Comic-Con where she discussed her new film (via ComicBook.com). The Deadpool 2 actress addressed questions on whether "Arthur" will get the same tattoos that Leto famously wore in the DC Extended Universe movie.
"No," Beetz confirmed. She then added, "And I haven't seen any grills up to this point."
It's a humorous nod to Leto's interesting take on the DC villain. However, the new Joker film will break away from what we saw in SuicideSquad. After all, the Todd Phillips movie is more of an origin story for the character named Arthur and how he eventually became Batman's archnemesis. We can all rest assured that Phoenix won't surprise us with a "Damaged" tattoo on his forehead and a set of metal-plated teeth.
Beetz will portray Sophie Dumond, a character that is described as a single mother who is down on her luck as she works to survive in Gotham. There are speculations that Sophie will be Arthur's love interest but some also believe that she might end up being his first victim.
The Joker film is currently being filmed in New York. The still-untitled movie is scheduled for release on October 4, 2019.
