X-Men Marvel Reboot Might Begin With Charles Xavier's Death

It's hard to imagine how the X-Men could possibly exist without Charles Xavier. However, it looks like the upcoming reboot of the comic book franchise will actually begin with the death of Professor X.

The reboot is not a huge secret considering that it was announced back in March. The new comic book series penned by legendary writer Jonathan Hickman, who promised that fans should prepare for "a whole new era for the X-Men." The two new miniseries are House of X and Powers of X and the first promo art for the new books is truly alarming. Check it out below.

The art was unveiled during an episode of Marvel's Pull List and it certainly has people shocked. The image depicts a Lincoln Memorial-style monument of Charles Xavier wearing Cerebro. In addition to that, the inscription behind the statue confirms that it's a tribute to one of the most influential mutants in the X-Men Universe.

"In this temple/ As in the hearts of the people/ for whom he saved mutantkind/ The memory of Charles Xavier/ Is enshrined forever."

So what could this mean for the future of the X-Men? It certainly looks like the mutants will have to move forward without Charles. Nevertheless, the reboot has no intention of forgetting about Professor X completely. Hopefully, Charles will still be a great influence on the mutants in the reboot.

Additionally, the reboot might also affect what happens to the X-Men when they are finally introduced in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Unfortunately, Professor X fans who were hoping that the character will be joining the MCU could be greatly disappointed.

Both House of X and Powers of X will be available starting July 24.
