Wonder Woman 1984 Star Connie Nielsen Says Zack Snyder Helped Her Land Hippolyta Role

Hippolyta may have only played a small role in the first Wonder Woman film but there is little doubt that they found the perfect actress to portray the Queen of the Amazons of Themyscira. However, director Patty Jenkins was initially uncertain about casting the Gladiator star in the role. That was until Justice League director Zack Snyder stepped in.

Nielsen recently spoke to The Hollywood Reporter where she revealed that Snyder was responsible for her being cast in the first Wonder Woman movie.

"It's funny because it was Zack Snyder who was the one who kept saying to Patty, ‘I really think you should meet with Connie Nielsen. I really think she's right for this role,'" Nielsen said. Interestingly, Jenkins reportedly had other plans for Hippolyta.

"Patty was like, ‘Oh, no, she's this tough girl, and I'm not looking for a tough woman for this.' Zack then said, ‘I really don't think so. I think you should meet with her.' I had to fly to London just before Christmas," Nielsen said, adding that it didn't take long for Jenkins to be convinced.

"I think I arrived and went straight from the airport to lunch with Patty at this Japanese restaurant. I just immediately fell into this comrades-in-arms kind of feeling with her, and we just bonded over the next four hours. We had the longest lunch, and it just felt like a conversation that was unable to end," she said.

We're glad that Jenkins eventually listened to Snyder since Nielsen perfectly embodied Hippolyta. Needless to say, we can't wait to see more of the Amazon queen in the sequel.

Wonder Woman 1984 is scheduled for release on August 14.
