The Umbrella Academy Season 2: Here's Why [SPOILER] was Recast in Netflix Series

There is little doubt that just about everyone in the cast of The Umbrella Academy returned in the second season. However, there was one particular character that ended up being recast in Season 2. So why the change? As it turns out, it has a lot to do with the whole time travelling thing.

WARNING: The following contains The Umbrella Academy Season 2 spoilers! Proceed with caution!

In the first season, Klaus Hargreeves managed to escape Cha-Cha and Hazel by stealing one of their time travelling briefcases. As he went back in time, he ended up in the 60s where he fought in the Vietnam War and fell in love with a young soldier named Dave. In Season 1, the character is played by Cody Ray Thompson but when Klaus finds him again in the second season, he is now played by a younger actor Calem McDonald.

So what's with the change? The second season only takes place a little before the Vietnam War so Dave should be played by the same actor, right? However, Screenrant points out that the character should be in his late teens by the time he meets Klaus again in Season 2. It is possible that the series decided that Thompson was too old to play a teenager and chose to recast the role.

In the end, it looked like Klaus was still unable to change Dave's fate which would mean he still ends up joining the Vietnam War and dying while in action. Nevertheless, things still worked out for Klaus in the series.
