The Stand: Whoopi Goldberg Reveals Mother Abagail's New Look In Stephen King Series

We already know that Whoopi Goldberg has been cast as the psychic survivor Mother Abagail in the upcoming CBS All Access series The Stand. Interestingly, the Sister Act star has debuted her new look in preparation for her role and Goldberg even went out of her way to explain why Abagail will be sporting some white dreadlocks in the adaptation of Stephen King's novel.

Goldberg showed off her new hair in a recent episode of The View where her co-hosts began asking her about her role in the series. The first thing that Goldberg pointed out was that there is a great difference in how the centenarian will be portrayed in the show because times are changing.

"When [King] first wrote this book, Mother Abagail was probably this tall, and she looked like Miss Jane Pittman on steroids. And the reason for that was people had no idea what older black women looked like because no one ever looked at old black women like that. So now we look at an older black woman and you're looking at amazing faces," she said.

That's right, a woman over 100 doesn't have to look like a tiny little thing that is covered in wrinkles. Perhaps Mother Abagail took very good care of herself when she was younger, thus making her look more youthful than her age. Either way, we're looking forward to seeing Goldberg as the one person who stands in Randall Flagg's way.

The Stand is currently in production and is expected to air on CBS All Access by 2020.
