The Stand: Alexander Skarsgård Talks About Playing Randall Flag In New Stephen King Series

There's a lot of exciting things to look forward to in the upcoming series adaptation of Stephen King's The Stand. However, it's pretty obvious that the best part is that the villainous Randall Flag will be played by True Blood actor Alexander Skarsgard. Not surprisingly, the Big Little Lies star is thrilled to have been cast as King's omnipresent baddie.

Skarsgard was recently a guest on SiriusXM where he expressed excitement over being cast as the Man in Black.

"It's extraordinarily thrilling and exciting, it's a fantastic opportunity, you know, it's an iconic figure," he said.

The Mute star also confirmed that they are just getting started on filming for the series and that he has grown his facial hair to play the villain. In addition to that, he admitted that he enjoys working with showrunner Josh Boone in bringing the character to life.

"He's been wonderful to collaborate with," Skarsgard said, adding that Boone is "a real nerd" who has read King's novels "probably ten times." He admitted that although he himself hasn't read most of King's books, Boone has suggested which stories to read so he could learn more about the Man in Black.

It's awesome to know that Skarsgard is slowly getting into the character since Randall appears in most of King's books including The Dark Tower and The Eyes of the Dragon. We're definitely looking forward to seeing his take on the villain in the upcoming show.

The Stand has not yet been given an official release date. However, it is expected to air on CBS All Access by 2020.
