The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run Gets New Release Date Due to COVID-19

The Coronavirus outbreak may have been bad news for big films that were set to premiere this summer. However, it looks like there's still some good things to look forward to once the self-quarantine is over. Although The Spongebob Movie: Sponge on the Run has been delayed, the highly anticipated film has just been given a new release date.

According to Deadline, Paramount Pictures has announced the new premiere dates for its films that were supposed to be released in summer. One of these titles is Sponge on the Run, which was set to drop on May 22. The studio has now decided to push the movie back to premiere in July.

This isn't the first time that Sponge on the Run has been delayed. The animated flick was supposed to premiere in 2019 but Paramount opted to push it back to July 2020. The release date was already moved up to May 22 but has now been pushed back to July due to COVID-19.

The Spongebob Movie isn't the only major Paramount project that got a new release date. It was previously confirmed that A Quiet Place IIwill premiere on September 4. In addition to that, the sequel Top Gun Maverick will be released on December 23 instead of June 24.

The synopsis for Sponge on the Run reads as follows:

"After SpongeBob's beloved pet snail Gary is snail-napped, he and Patrick embark on an epic adventure to The Lost City of Atlantic City to bring Gary home. As they navigate the delights and dangers on this perilous and hilarious rescue mission, SpongeBob and his pals prove there's nothing stronger than the power of friendship."

The Spongebob Movie: Sponge on the Run is scheduled for release on July 31.
