The Matrix 4 Gets An Interesting Work Title

People are understandably excited now that The Matrix 4 is actually happening. Interestingly, the highly anticipated sequel to the Wachowskis' sci-fi trilogy just got a strange working title.

The report comes from Production Weekly, which lists The Matrix 4 with a working title Project Ice Cream. We're not sure why they decided on the name but it's exciting to know that the sequel is being developed rather quickly. It was revealed that the movie could begin filming in Chicago in February 2020. In addition to that, Lana Wachowski is listed as director.

The fourth Matrix film is still a long way from pre-production but we already know that Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss will be back in the sequel as Neo and Trinity, respectively. Most of the original team that worked on the franchise, including concept artists Geof Darrow and Steve Skroce, are also set to return for the new project.

Although the film already has a killer lineup, there are a few names that will not be returning in The Matrix 4. Lilly Wachowski has chosen not to work on the sequel because she is busy with other projects. Likewise, Laurence Fishburne has not yet been confirmed to reprise his role as Morpheus but we're crossing our fingers that the return of Reeves' John Wick: Chapter Three - Parabellum co-star will be announced later this year.

The Matrix 4 has not yet been given an official release date. Nevertheless, the film is expected to begin production early next year.
