It has been a long time since we got any updates on the planned live-action adaptation of the hit video game The Last of Us. However, it looks like things are finally moving forward to the project. HBO has just given The Last of Us a full series order.

The announcement comes from The Hollywood Reporter, which reveals that the planned show already has some amazing creative minds on board. Chernobyl writer and producer Craig Mazin is set to pen the series along with The Last of Us writer and creative director Neil Druckmann. The series itself will then be produced by HBO and Sony Pictures TV along with PlayStation Productions, Word Games and the original game's developer Naughty Dog.

HBO Programming executive VP Francesca Orsi released a statement about the upcoming project.

"Craig and Neil are visionaries in a league of their own," Orsi said. "With them at the helm alongside the incomparable Carolyn Strauss, this series is sure to resonate with both die-hard fans of The Last of Us games and newcomers to this genre-defining saga. We're delighted to partner with Naughty Dog, Word Games, Sony and PlayStation to adapt this epic, powerfully immersive story."

We're loving the idea that we'll finally get an adaptation of The Last of Us considering that the game's story itself is compelling. Needless to say, we can't wait to find out more about the show.

The Last of Us series has not yet been given an official production start date or release date. Likewise, casting has not yet been announced. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
