The Boys Season 2 Shocking Clip Featured an Actual Whale Prop

We are already expecting The Boys Season 2 to be a much bloodier follow-up to an already gory first season. Interestingly, the cast and crew went out of their way to make sure everything in the series was realistic for everyone, even that crazy scene where they drove a speedboat into a whale.

In case you missed it, a new clip from The Boys Season 2 has just been released and it showed Billy Butcher ramming a boat into a stranded whale's belly. Amazingly, Karl Urban revealed during the show's panel on Comic-Con@Home that the whale was an actual prop.

"Yeah, they actually built a huge prosthetic whale and it was on the beach. And it was very practical. We actually end up inside the whale, without giving too much away. It was a pretty surreal experience, and pretty hot and stinky in the Canadian summer. It was great," Urban said with a laugh.

Creator Eric Kripke was quick to point out that he was truly proud of this particular sequence.

"I want to add to that that one of the best professional moments of my career was when I told the production crew. They're like, ‘We're not really building this whale, right?' Arv Grewal, the production designer, and I said, ‘Yeah, yeah, we're building a fucking whale. And it's gonna be 40 feet long and 11 feet high,'" Kripke said. He then added that it was all worth it in the end.

"Long before we started shooting Episode 1, we were deep into building that whale because we knew it was such a huge project. And so expensive, too. It was such an expensive whale. And it makes the scenes work because they're there interacting with this real thing with an exploded belly. It's not just a CG effect," Kripke said.

Now that's a true commitment to the scene. We can't wait to see what else these guys have in store for us in the second season.

The Boys Season 2 will premiere on Amazon Prime on September 4.
