Taika Waititi Possibly Confirms Thor: Love and Thunder Won't Deal With Jane's Cancer Storyline

There is little doubt that Marvel fans are already excited about the return of Jane Foster in Thor: Love and Thunder. But will the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe flick also adapt Jane's unfortunate storyline from the comic books? Director Taika Waititi may have revealed that the MCU will have a completely different take on why Jane takes the hammer and do away with her cancer storyline.

Waititi recently spoke to Variety following his awesome win at the 92nd Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for Jojo Rabbit. Interestingly, the filmmaker played coy on whether Thor 4 will feature a cancer-ridden Jane.

"We don't know," Waititi said. "That comics run was a big inspiration and was an influence on the first few drafts."

He further explained that things usually change in the MCU.

"At Marvel, we always change everything," Waititi continued. "I could say one thing right now, and in two years, it will be the complete opposite — or that thing won't exist. We continue writing even in post-production."

It seems like a strange change but it's not exactly the first one in the MCU. The storyline of several characters has been altered in the films. It's still too early to tell if Jane will be afflicted with cancer in Thor 4 but we wouldn't be surprised if her journey to becoming the new God of Thunder is changed in the sequel.

Natalie Portman is set to return as Jane in Thor: Love and Thunder along with Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson. The film is scheduled for release on November 5, 2021.
