Taika Waititi Offers Update On Akira Film

Sometimes you win some and you lose some. Although Taika Waititi is currently preparing to work on Thor: Love and Thunder, that doesn't mean that he has already forgotten about his other highly anticipated project. The Jojo Rabbit director has just provided an update on his live-action Akira film.

Waititi recently spoke to IGN to explain why his adaptation of the cyberpunk classic has been delayed.

"Because we were working really hard on the script, we had to keep pushing back the start date for the shoot. And we ended up having to push it a couple of weeks too far, which actually ate into the Thor schedule. It was very close together," Waititi said.

Although he will now have to work on Thor 4 first, Waititi still has every intention to pursue Akira. He even revealed when he will begin working on the project.

"Then it got pushed again, and again. It just got too far into the foreschedule to make it work. So now we had to kind of take Akira, and sort of shift it around to the tail end of Thor, and move it down a couple of years. But yeah, still want to make it," Waititi confirmed.

See, there's still hope for the live-action adaptation. We may just have to wait a few more years for Akira but Waititi still has every intention to work on it. Although it's still unclear when Love and Thunder will begin production, we're hoping that Waititi will immediately begin working on Akira as soon as he is done with the Marvel Cinematic Universe film.

Thor: Love and Thunder is scheduled for release on November 5, 2021. The Akira movie has not yet been given an official release date but stay tuned for more updates on this story.
