Swamp Thing Cancellation Over Tax Rebate Gets Furious Response From DC Fans

Swamp Thing has barely started but now it has officially been cancelled. However, the cancellation doesn't have anything to do with how people reacted to the pilot of the new DC Universe series. In contrary, fans are outraged that the plug is being pulled on the show over a tax rebate.

The news certainly shocked people considering that Swamp Thing was off to a great start. As it turns out, there was more to the cancellation. The series, which was filmed at Wilmington, North Carolina, was supposed to be eligible to receive up to $12 million from the state's grant funding (via Star News Online). Unfortunately, a communication error led the North Carolina's House of Representatives' appropriations committee to believe that the grant fund had a huge excess.

How big of an excess are we talking about? The grant was believed to still have around $67 million, so the committee decided to remove the upcoming $31 million from the proposed budget altogether. Unfortunately, the said $67 million excess doesn't actually exist.

The mistake has been caught but it also meant that Swamp Thing might no longer be able to continue filming in North Carolina. Needless to say, fans were furious that the series could no longer be getting a second season.

People are certainly hoping that Warner Bros. will change its mind about the cancellation of Swamp Thing. Nevertheless, this could mean that all 13 episodes of the first season will air on DC Universe.

Swamp Thing airs on DC Universe every Friday nights.
