Star Wars Writer Reveals Why Lucasfilm Cancelled The Force Awakens Book

There are several Star Wars traditions that have changed ever since Disney acquired the rights to the franchise. For instance, a non-fiction book documenting how Star Wars: The Force Awakens was made has been cancelled in the past. But why was the book cancelled in the first place? Author J.W. Rinzler shared his theory on why Disney and Lucasfilm decided against releasing the book.

Rinzler, who was supposed to write The Making of The Force Awakens, shared his thoughts on the cancellation in a new video. The writer stated that Disney and Lucasfilm chose to cancel the book since they were worried that it would send a bad message to fans.

But what was that message? According to Rinzler, it's possible that Disney was concerned that the book would reveal that production on the film was an embarrassing mess.

Rinzler was quick to point out that although production in itself was not a big problem, they encountered several minor upsets during the filming of The Force Awakens. Once all these get written down in one book, it would make the movie look like a huge mess. Additionally, he pointed out that this is simply based on his own speculations. Nevertheless, fans are already latching on to the idea.

Rinzler previously worked on non-fiction novels like The Art of Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, The Making of Star Wars Revenge of the Sith, and The Making of Star Wars: The Definitive Story Behind the Original Film. In addition to that, he served as an editor for Lucas Licensing's book division.
