Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker Possible Runtime Is Surprisingly Short

We're still waiting on some major updates about Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker but it looks like some interesting details have been revealed ahead of the D23 Expo 2019. The possible runtime of Episode IX may have been revealed and it could be surprisingly short.

The unusual source of information is Don Williams, brother of composer John Williams who will provide the music for The Rise of Skywalker. While speaking at the Academy of Scoring Arts' score study of Jurassic Park, Don confirmed that he and John have just started working on Episode IX.

"[John's] got 135 minutes worth of music to write, so that kind of tells how long the film is," Don said. Interestingly, he also confirmed that they are off to a slow start but the minutes seem about right.

"It is top to bottom music," Don added. "We've done four days and we just scratched the surface. I think we've got something like 34 minutes in the canon at this point."

It's certainly an interesting revelation considering that fans were expecting The Rise of Skywalker to close in on three hours. After all, it's the final movie in the Skywalker Saga and there's a lot of storylines that need to be closed out properly. However, it looks like Episode IX will have a running time of two hours and 15 minutes, which is fitting considering that most of the other Star Wars movies have runtimes that are slightly shorter or longer than 135 minutes.

Of course, it's important to point out that this isn't an official announcement just yet and the film could still be a little longer. Hopefully, we'll get some confirmation about the movie's official runtime during D23 later this August.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will premiere on December 20.
